cbb_nameCHOC Cord Blood Bank CHOC is not collecting cord blood units (as of December 2020) and do not plan to reopen this part of the program. Therefore, they did not renew Netcord/FACT accreditation for the cord blood bank. However, their BMT laboratory is accredited by FACT as a processing and storage facility. They continue to store the cord blood units that were previously collected and processed in the same freezer locations, using REES alarm system and freezer management SOPs designed for the whole program. CHOC continues to maintain these units on the registry so they can be searched for any patient in need. In their recently submitted qualification renewal, CHOC responded to relevant questions in this way: All CBU were collected, processed and stored with NetCord-FACT accreditation. CBB closed collection/processing of CBU in 2020. Today, CBU are stored and distributed from FACT-Jacie accredited Cell Therapy Lab Collection & Processing questions do not apply since bank is no longer functional and adding/collecting units. CBU previously in storage are maintained by FACT accredited CT laboratory at CHOC. There are a number of banks who are suspending collection and I believe we’ll see more of this.
