Open Letter

Dear WMDA members,

Our Face-to-Face Event in Leiden was a great success and we’re very much looking forward to seeing each other in working groups and committees.

Though we feel that there is something truly special about seeing each other in person and benefitting from the collaborative atmosphere that is unique to a Face-to-Face Event. That’s why we’re so excited that the next one is only 32 weeks away!

It would be fantastic if as many WMDA members as possible could attend and build on this year’s achievements, so please save the dates 18 – 21 June 2023 in your diary.

As previously announced, we are delighted that DKMS will be hosting next year’s event. DKMS and WMDA are already hard at work, reading through all the feedback and looking at ways to make next year’s event, even better and more collaborative. We’re looking at locations in and around Frankfurt.

The first two days of the Frankfurt event will be a WMDA meeting, whilst the last two days will be an International Donor Registries Conference (IDRC). This gives the attendees more of a chance to delve deeper into the topics discussed in Leiden.

A very big thank you to DKMS for hosting next year’s event and together we are looking forward to finding those missing parts of the puzzle in Frankfurt.

Warm regards,

Lydia

Global Registration Identifier for Donors - GRID

Detailed Org Update Status Step E: Fully implemented the new GRID donor ID

From 15th December 2020 GRID must be fully implemented for all organisations and will be the only donor identifier to be shown in the Search & Match Service. Final references to the old donor ID will no longer be visible within the Search & Match Service and should be discontinued. WMDA acknowledges that on a registry level, the current donor IDs will never fully be removed and must be maintained for historical traceability and quality. The expectation is that use of these IDs in daily processes and communications (technical and operational) are discontinued. Continued use of multiple IDs is inherently a risk of misidentification and miscommunication. Find here the status of all organisations in relation to using the GRID in listing their donors.
